Tomato Pie, pizza, pizza, pizza

I am not a pizza lover. Oh I do occasionally get a craving, but if you have kids by the time you have been to your tenth birthday party you never want to see a pizza again.

So I was surprised when my fellow parent and friend Lorelei kept nagging at me to check out this new pizza joint in Silverlake. Her adulation’s finally wore me out and along with a gaggle of kids we headed over.  Finding this super casual pizzeria, is a bit difficult as it is in the very back of a small building. You order and they bring it to your table. Tomato Pie was aptly named as pizza is also called Tomato Pie. My daughter and I got two slices and a drink each for a total bill of $11.50.

Okay can I say how great this pizza is. The crust is thin and light, and toppings are classic yet full of flavor ….enough to please any palette The kicker is that two slices are only 180 calories.  Hard to believe with so much flavor hitting our mouth.
I ordered the Grandma pizza which was filled with marinated tomatoes, with olive oil, fresh garlic, basil, oregano, and the cheeses were a light mozzarella and parmesan. Sensational! I also tasted the eggplant Parmigiana pizza was topped with breaded eggplant, spinach , mushrooms and ricotta cheese. … really nice! They have about a dozen different gourmet pizza along with classic cheese and Sicilian styles, or you can create your own. Pizzas run $11 for a small up to $22 for an extra large.  They also have pastas, subs, salads and deserts here.

The pizzas here are amazing. You can watch the guy flip them in the air too. The deal was the two slices and a drink for $5.75.  A great lunch or light dinner.  Great for catering too.
