Surprise Bargains
Bargains can be found anywhere even when you aren’t looking. This is both good and bad. Good if you can afford to snap up a deal at almost anytime and bad if you can’t. When you can’t pounce on everything, ya gotta be selective!
After attempting to see the aircraft carrier in San Pedro this last weekend, and failing to see it, we ended up at Memory Lane Antiques in Torrance. We just figured it was worth looking around for the enjoyment factor. Since it was the last day of the month, dozens of vendors had sales with markdowns from 30%-70% off.
Oops… didn’t plan on this.
So with discounts abounding, we made a list of needs and wants. I was on the hunt for a covered sugar bowl and a leather portfolio. Hubby was on the hunt for a butter dish, projector screen and a Farberware Grill. Our daughter was on the hunt for a vintage dress for a wedding we all are attending. We all went on our separate hunts.
Not five minutes went by and our daughter said, “Mom come over here”. A bunch of vintage clothing was on sale at 30% off. She was pulling out dress after dress. I had to step in and help her edit them down before she tried them on. She ended up with a nice cream colored 1980s dress for $14. I said ok… It was a deal and she needed it.
Hubby had already tracked down a butter dish for $5 and some cool old Hollywood stills for $2 each. Not needed but a great find. I found a large, near new John Boos cutting board for just $39. What a steal!! But I opted at not getting it cause we didn’t need the extra expense or an extra cutting board. Then I found a leather portfolio for just $10. But it wasn’t “killer” and I ended up putting it back too since the need wasn’t urgent.
So we popped for a few bargains, but couldn’t get everything. I am suffering from “not buying” remorse on that Boos cutting board. Bargains can come out of nowhere. Ya just have to be prepared for them. We weren’t.
