Shopping with the Kid
OMG! I am in disbelief…My first easy, happy dress buying experience with my daughter just happened! At 14 there are no easy excursions to outlets or designer sample sales. Too much whining, arguments and “ do I look fat” discussions were enough to stop me from taking her to my favorites bargain haunts. She just killed the fun completely.
They have such an odd perception of themselves in middle school. They can’t be seen with parents, everything you say or do is such an embarrassment. When did I become such a scourge on humanity?
This time, at home with two windows open on both computers we went through site after site perusing styles, fabrics, colors looking for a multi-use dress (graduation, concert and party dress).
She settled on a cotton blend dress from Kohl’s on sale at $44.20 instead of $68. After checking sizing and measurements, I quickly cruised for a coupon code and got an additional 10% off of that. Sweet.

No screaming, no haggling, no arguments. If it doesn’t fit or she hates it, I can return it to the store. Easy!
Wow, can’t wait till I can finally take her with me shopping again. We had a good hour of online shopping fun and saved almost $20. Plus she picked out a dress that didn’t scream “ tacky whore”. Maybe I have done something right?
