Roses

By Suzanne O'Connor

On the way home from the Today in LA show Saturday, I stopped by this Nursery in North Hollywood cause they had so many roses.  I have a very bare planting area in my back yard that I don’t want to fill up with native drought tolerant plants and cactus like the rest of my yard. I have been fantasizing about some rose bushes for a few months.

I missed the bare root season this last winter and now didn’t want to spend the average $15-$28 for a rose bush. But the roses at this nursery looked lush and fully bloomed … so I had to at least check it out.

$8.50… yep $8.50 a rose plant with some at $7.50 and some at $9.50. Even though the back of my Subaru Forester was packed with all the goodies from the Today in LA show I had to get some roses. I squeezed in 3 white rose bushes. Didn’t get the variety name, but they’re white with a slight blush in the center.  A couple of days later I went back and also picked up 3 white rose trees at $20 each.  Sweet!

I also priced some large Agave succulent cactus at $65 a plant. This might seem high, but I had seen these upwards of $80 at Armstrongs

I wanted to get more roses, but the car was overstuffed. So I rushed home and realized I should have written down more examples of the savings. So I’ll be headed back today for more roses, and info.

In the mean time, if you’re planting a Spring garden, check these guys out. I’ll have more details at a later date.
