New Kitten
The big news at this household is the adoption of a new kitten.
A promise made to our daughter this last year insured we would be adopting soon. Plus with LA County cutting the Animal Shelters budget, we knew this Spring would bring us our new family member. My daughter insisted upon a kitten. Though an adult cat would make hubby and I just as happy, we wanted to keep the promise to our daughter.
So we started our search for a smart kitten who was curious playful but calm. We also wanted to find a kitten we would make an instant connection to. We researched breed characteristics and talked friends who had kitties. But we had to get out and look.
If you’re looking for a pet, there are hundreds of pet rescue agencies to contact. But we started our search online at the local city shelters where you actual can browse the new dogs and cats available for adoption. We also stopped in quite a few shelters looking for that perfect kitty.
It’s not easy walking out of shelter after shelter, kid in tow, without a pet. So many needy cute dogs and cats, but we held steady and took our time looking. After 3 months we finally found what we think is the perfect kitten at the Pasadena Humane Society this last weekend.
A sweet, clever, bright blue eye’d, part Siamese, white with peach tail and nose, 2 month old, boy kitten. It was an instant connection. I had my daughter keep watch on the kennel so no one else would adopt him while I filled out the paper work. At the Pasadena Shelter it costs $70 to adopt which includes the neutering, first shots, FeLV testing and a cardboard cat carrier. They also send you home with a packet of info for new kitty owners.
The hard part was telling our daughter we couldn’t bring him home right away…. They had to neuter him before they’d let us take him home.
So we are preparing our home, re-arranging our time for awhile to add this little fur ball into our lives this Tuesday. OY!
