LF Warehouse Sale Dilema

By Suzanne O'Connor

I haven’t always been very disciplined in the past when I decided to head to a sale. I have overspent on items I didn’t really need.

Now though, I plan ahead and if I can’t afford to purchase, I simply don’t go. I have passed on many a sale where there was product I adored. No need to tease myself, or use credit cards or over spend. Since we are minding a tight budget these days, I am considering not going to my favorite all time sale, the LF Warehouse Sale.

But then, there is always another side to any dilemma. I do need tee shirts. I really live in them in the summer. A drawer cleaning last month showed me how low I was getting. The tees I picked up at Forever 21 last Summer for $9 didn’t make it through the winter, nor did the ones I got at Ross Dress for Less from $12-$15. The only shirts that had held up from last year were the tees I picked up at the LF Warehouse Sale and at the Von Dutch Sale.

I hate paying more than $20 for a tee shirt. Regardless of cool cut, color or the “cuteness factor”, 20 bucks is top dollar for me for a tee. With Von Dutch officially out of biz, the only source I have at the moment with rock bottom pricing on quality tees is the LF Warehouse Sale and they always have table after table with tees and tops from $8-$12.

Okay so I need plan in advance and use some discipline if I want to go to the sale.
First the credit cards will be removed from my wallet. Second I will do a wardrobe check so that I only get tops that go with items I already have.  Nothing will be purchased that is just cute or fabulous. Items purchased will have to fit a need.

Lastly I will only take cash to the sale. When I went to the October ’08 sale I dropped near $200 cause I had a credit card available… and I was being disciplined. Knowing how good the sale is and knowing that I could go overboard, taking cash is the only way to go grab a great deal and still not go over budget.

Even with a tight budget, you can go to sale and not overspend. The plan is to spend frugally and wisely. Just plan ahead, leave the cards at home and only use cash.

I’ll let ya know how I did.
