Friday Afternoon at Shane’s
Late Friday afternoon, after I had hit the Grand opening of the Junior Drake Outlet Store and had lunch with my best-est friend, Lizzie, I stopped in Shane’s Jewelry in Westwood. As usually the service and workmanship was impeccable. But I also got a history lesson.
About 5 months ago I had taken off my wedding ring because I had bent the setting and simply don’t trust any other jeweler to fix it right. I also brought along a bunch of gold charms I had inherited from my Aunt but had never worn to sell.
Their incredible jeweler, Ted took the time to take out the diamonds and pearls that were in the charms and then went in back to work on and clean my wedding ring. Then Stan Shane came over, weighed my gold charms and paid me $200 cash on the spot.
It was super fast and there was no charge for cleaning and straightening out of my ring. I felt so guilty for getting a free repair and $200 in cash that I am having Ted put a .15 ct diamond into my mom’s baby ring that I wear on my pinky finger. Again it was a very old gold setting and I wouldn’t trust just anybody with it.
Wendy, Stan’s wife then pulled out a scrap book with pictures from the 1970’s and 1980s of the store when there used to be a line 20 people deep just to get in. Picture Farrah Fawcett hair and high wasted bell bottoms… Yikes! The showroom was packed, 4-5 people deep at the long counters trying to get gold necklaces and charms at their famous bargain prices!
The service and pricing at Shane’s Jewelry has always been superb. I especially love the custom work they do. The pricing was so good 30 years ago, people would stand in line just to get in. Shane’s jewelry was good then and is still good now. Nice how some things don’t change.

Your article on Shane’s Jewelers brought back so many memories…have not been there for many years, but back in the days of Chemin de Fer jeans and “Farrah hair” that was the place to go to for gold charms and chains sold by the gram. Still have a lot of their charms that my kids have now recycled as “vintage”-so glad they are still going strong!
