Dumpster Diving or Free Curb Discards?
A few years back I wrote about the gems I found doing a bit of trash picking. Yeah really, I have dumpster dived, trash picked and other wise scavenged …
You can read my past exploits here.
Lately, during our daily walks, we come across discarded items left curbside for trash pick up. I see a lot of junkie, trash worthy items. But I also find some goodies, and Hubby and I haul them home.
Latest finds include some discarded succulents cuttings, which I have nurtured, replanted and are now thriving. We also found a tiered plant stand and two, ½ inch thick, beveled glass table tops. All of which are in our backyard waiting their permanent assignments.
Did I really need any of these things… nope. Did they add to our quality of life… a bit. But they are quality items and re-usable.
So next time your driving down an alley or street, if you see something curbside that’s being discarded, stop and see if it can be re-purposed. You could score a gem of a find.
*Oh, um… just in case, we keep some latex gloves in the trunk of the car if the item we like is covered in yucky stuff and we don’t want to touch it.
