Country Antique Fair Mall
This last weekend, our kid had some tickets to Magic Mountain. Wrangling a couple other kids & parents together only left us with the responsibility of pick up at the end of the day.
Out in Saugus is one of our favorite antique/ bric a brac haunts, Country Antique Fair Mall. We’ve been haunting this place for the last 15 years. Sometime we buy ….sometimes we don’t. Always fairly priced, sometimes an absolute steal, it’s always a nice hour or so spent looking at everything from china and furnishings to antique sports collectibles, oddities and books. Since we had to be out there to pick up a band of teenagers, we left a little early to visit our antique haunt.
We don’t need anything, don’t have room for any more furnishings, and don’t really collect anything, so we figured this stop would just be for entertainment value. But after cruising down just one aisle of different cubicles and dealers, I found a matching dinner plate to my set for $4.50. These are usually priced at $9-$20. So I picked it up. I also found the cups and saucers at $7.00 each, but passed cause I don’t use the 8 I already had.
On the third aisle, Kevin found, tucked away in a corner, a 4-piece blue & white ceramic soup tureen set with lid, bowl, platter and ladle on sale at $21 marked down from the original $50. After discussing how much soup we consume, we decided to but it.

I did find a “Holly Go Lightly” black wide brimmed hat, but it didn’t fit my fat head. Some antique watering cans in various sizes were priced from $22-$50. An antique foot bench with detailed needlepoint was $86. A silver plated tray was $12, an extremely large, ornately carved china antique armoire was $1200. A 7 piece Mark Twain book collection in mint condition, published in 1924 was $126 for the set… a little on the high side for us. One dealer had 60% off everything. We went through that cubical trying to find something we loved… but didn’t. There were dozens of others things we loved, laughed at or commented on, but didn’t purchase We were there a good hour and a half goofing off.

Afterward, before picking up the kids we grabbed a bite at El Toritos off the Old Road. I have to say, the Margaritas were great, but the Mexican Caesar Salad… yuck! I wondered if they knew that the Caesar Salad was invented in Baja Mexico. How do you mess that up?
