Back Door Bakery

Once Upon a Time, the Back Door Bakery in Silver Lake packed ‘em in every morning with their incredibly delicious, home made bakery goods. This spot was a mainstay neighborhood meeting place and served up delectable bakery goods and breakfast items that were unsurpassed anywhere.

Then a short-sighted landlord forced them out and they disappeared for awhile. We’ve been left to standing in line at Portos to get anything nearly as good.

Well, happily they’re back…. In Sunland.

Owners Debbie and Reno actual live up in the Sunland area and have brought their delicious touch into their own neighborhood.  You’ll find everything from their famous Croissants and fudge cake, to French baguette sandwiches, brioches, danishes, breads, bagels, cheese cake, tarts, muffins, and their legendary home-made Hostess cupcakes.

We stopped in on Saturday and had coffee, danishes, bought loaves of bread and visited with the owners. The coffee is terrific and the service always makes you feel like a family member. The ingredients are top notch and the bakery and food items are made up fresh daily. Debbie gets up at 3:30 every morning to start baking!

This last Sunday they hosted a Ukelele Jam!

You can pre-order anything a couple of days ahead of time if you want to pick up for your office or special event. You’ll be a hero for bringing in such sumptuous goodies.

Totally worth the effort to go from anywhere in Southern California.
