An Old Fashioned Idea
When I read that Sears was starting a Christmas Club Card to help their shoppers save to afford the Holiday shopping, I just had to laugh. See, you give them money by adding money to the card every month. That way you’re paying ahead of the Holiday shopping season. So Sears has your money before you even spend it. Yeah, ya get a 3% reward, but you can only spend the credit on the card at Sears.
The only thing good about this Club Card is the old fashioned concept. It’s easier to afford holiday gift giving when you start shopping early… like now. Starting your shopping earlier eases the stress on your bank account and credit cards.
Another “old time” idea is putting aside a little bit all year long in a specific “Holiday/ Christmas” savings account. You’ll earn interest on it and you have the choice of where you want to spend it.
I think the old fashioned way is the best. I am already 1/3 of the way through my Holiday shopping list. I should be done by Thanksgiving and then have some money left over for a Christmas party or even take a vacation. No credit card bills. No last minute shopping craziness and a lot less stress. Ready…set… go! Get started on your holiday gift shopping.
