Trader Joes Fun
Call me old fashioned (not!) but I love my Fearless Flyer from Trader Joes.
Back in the day I would ravenously read it after picking it up in-store. I was the one in the wine aisle leaning over the empty cart reading it cover to cover looking for new buys, deals, recipes or tidbits of information.
Thrift Store Fun
I love to go to thrift and junk stores. Digging and exploring are in my genes! I have a few regular pop in stores I like to haunt. Some I’ve scored some real steals at. But not all thrift stores are created equally.
A Frugal Mind Set
The kid is back at school so days of sleeping in to 8am are over. Our 20 year old alarm clock is going off now at 6:45.
The good news is our daughter didn’t need much in terms of back to school supplies and is content to wait till the LF Warehouse Sale to get clothes.
We approached this whole back to school thing this year with frugality. I honestly was fed up with re-buying school supplies, shoes and clothes every year
Surprise Bargains
Bargains can be found anywhere, even when you aren’t looking. This is both good and bad. Good if you can afford to snap up a deal at almost anytime and bad if you can’t. When you can’t pounce on everything, ya gotta be selective!
Back Door Bakery
Once Upon a Time, the Back Door Bakery in Silver Lake packed ‘em in every morning with their incredibly delicious, home made bakery goods. This spot was a mainstay neighborhood meeting place and served up delectable bakery goods and breakfast items that were unsurpassed anywhere.
Then a short-sighted landlord forced them out and they disappeared for awhile. We’ve been left to standing in line at Portos to get anything nearly as good.
Well, happily they’re back…. In Sunland.
The Thrill of the Hunt
In Los Angeles we rush around a lot. Busy lives, hectic schedules make it hard to shop just for fun. This last weekend we all slowed down a bit and from what I’m hearing everyone enjoyed the laid back pace.
Shopping should be fun and hopefully not rushed.
The Road Less Traveled to the Orbit
This weekends beautiful weather had us taking, of all things….. a drive. Even with gas at over $4 a gallon, we headed out without a real plan or destination. We headed up through Big Tujunga Canyon into the mountains, caught the Angeles Crest highway and somehow ended up in Littlerock on Pearblossom Highway.
Estate Sale Shenanigans
This last weekend, hubby & I went to this professionally organized estate sale by TLC Estate Sales. This was our first time going to one of their sales. Last year, after we bought our house, we needed some items and went to estate sales to find them. But now we don’t need hardly anything, so we mostly go for fun. Unless we know there is something there we know we want, we don’t get there right as the sale opens, but a few hours later.
Country Antique Fair Mall
This last weekend, our kid had some tickets to Magic Mountain. Wrangling a couple other kids & parents together only left us with the responsibility of pick up at the end of the day.
Out in Saugus is one of our favorite antique/ bric a brac haunts, Country Antique Fair Mall. We’ve been haunting this place for the last 15 years
Spring Errands
The price of gas hurts, even while driving a Honda Civic. So we’ve once again tweaked how we do things. Errands are now planned out with mileage and time in mind.
Our errand day was usually Friday, but now it’s Monday cause the traffic is somehow lighter. So this last Monday, instead of spending my typing my little finger away on the computer, was spent running errands.
