A Visit to LACMA
After steam cleaning my hardwood floors and writing an article on Sunday morning, Webdude suggested we get out of the house for some R & R. We headed out to LACMA, dragging our teenager kid with us for 3 hours of art immersion
If at First You Don’t Succeed….
Did ya see me this weekend? I was everywhere. This weekend was spent trying to track down some new bargain sources.
Friday, I drove around Santa Monica and into West LA only to find the Bridal place I wanted to research, was closed!
The New Year is Here
The New Year is here! 2012 can be anything from “ a lot better than 2011” or “an average year” or it can be “horrible”. I’m betting it’s gonna be better for most of us than the past couple of years. But I’m not waiting to see what happens. I will do my best to make the year the best I can.
So, I made some News Years resolutions that I started acting on the minute I made them.
After Christmas Shopping
The day after Christmas is usually the biggest shopping day of the year. That yearning to spend gift cards and bag a bargain persists in most of us. But the streets around the malls are still a traffic nightmare and the parking lots are filled with ill-mannered parking imbeciles. I try to avoid shopping the day after Christmas, but not this year.
Left Coast Wine Bar & Gallery
Eating in all the time has it’s rewards. Family time, new recipes, money savings and so on. Enjoying an evening glass of wine on my front porch also is cool. But too much of the same old thing dictates a change. I just had to get out this last weekend. Problem was I had already eaten and we didn’t want to drop $80 on a night out. So we went shopping for a local Wine Bar.
Summer Get Away
This Summer has been busier than usual and between parenting and running BargainsLA, the stress level has been above the norm. Our quick trip to the San Diego Zoo this last weekend was suppose to help us “getaway from it all” for some stress relief and family time for the day. It proved to be both good and bad.
Back Door Bakery
Once Upon a Time, the Back Door Bakery in Silver Lake packed ‘em in every morning with their incredibly delicious, home made bakery goods. This spot was a mainstay neighborhood meeting place and served up delectable bakery goods and breakfast items that were unsurpassed anywhere.
Then a short-sighted landlord forced them out and they disappeared for awhile. We’ve been left to standing in line at Portos to get anything nearly as good.
Well, happily they’re back…. In Sunland.
Carmageddon
Way back in the late 1980’s I got stuck in a traffic nightmare when a big rig jacked- knifed on the 405 north at Santa Monica Blvd. I was on Pico at Sepulveda and sat in traffic for 2 hours to go 4 blocks… it was a Friday night. It was memorable because it was so unbelievable.
The Road Less Traveled to the Orbit
This weekends beautiful weather had us taking, of all things….. a drive. Even with gas at over $4 a gallon, we headed out without a real plan or destination. We headed up through Big Tujunga Canyon into the mountains, caught the Angeles Crest highway and somehow ended up in Littlerock on Pearblossom Highway.
Your Car, Our Driver
Unless you have money to burn, you can’t afford to have your evening out end in a DUI arrest or a traffic ticket. Before you go out and have a raging time, think about the safety of yourself and those on the road with you. Hard to do when you’re throwing back shots.
That’s where “Your Car, Our Driver” comes in.
