The Costs of Retail

While I was visiting a Warehouse Distribution Outlet it dawned on me that the discounts were based on removing the large section of distribution and marketing.

This warehouse outlet was selling product at below or at the cost to manufacture.

So then why is everything so expensive at the retail level? The quick answer is COST.

The Joy of Bargain Shopping

It isn’t just about saving money. For avid bargain hunters it’s also about beating the system and knowing you can ALWAYS find what you need for less without giving up on quality.

There’s a lot of comfort and power in that simple idea.

Open Open Open that BargainsLA Notice

I get a heck of a lot of email. I spend at a least an hour and sometimes 2 hours, on email every day. I use several different email addresses. A few addresses for consumer / BargainsLA information, one for general shopping and one vague address so I can research incognito.  So I already have a good idea ...

Describing what I do is complicated to non retail/ non manufacturer industry people.  Usually I say something like, “I research, post and promote Discount Outlets, Sample and Warehouse Sales.”

But I’m headed to the Mall. The retail mall… not an Outlet Mall.

I’m actually excited about it.

Friends Who Pay Full Retail

I am often perplexed by people who ONLY pay retail, ONLY buy at Boutiques and Department Stores.

Believe it or not, I have had several friends who only pay retail. They live in the best neighborhoods and eat at the trendiest restaurants. These guys only buy brand new, latest and trendiest at top dollar.

Couture Learning Curve

Back in the day, I knew less than nothing about clothing quality, design and fit. In my early twenties I lived in jeans, plaid flannels, sweats and lace up army boots. I was the epitome of poor Melrose hip.

At the time, my mom was writing a bargain shopping column for the LA Times. Occasionally I would spend the day with her at some of her favorite stores. Spending time with her was always fun. Her wit and sense of play made everything an adventure.
