A Vintage Kind of Mind

I have always shopped vintage stores. Whether they’re clothing boutiques, used furniture or appliance stores or collectibles and doo dads emporiums. For me, it’s about affordability as well as quality and design. But I got to admit, it’s more fun to shop vintage than regular stores. Always a lot of, “look a that” or “do you remember these?”

The Thrifty Opportunist

Any good bargain shopper will pop into Thrift stores, Yard & Estate Sales and Flea Markets and the occasional dumpster dive. Not because “used” is always a bargain, it isn’t. But because sometimes you’ll find opportunistic steals.

Some of my best deals ever came from Thrifts.

Disappointed

Maybe I shouldn’t be so hopeful. Or maybe it’s this seriously wacko election… or maybe I just thought the current laws in place would protect consumers. But I recently learned, for a fact that many well known Sample Sales sites ask their vendors to over inflate the retail price so the discounts look steeper. What a disappointment!

It’s here. The biggest Sample and Warehouse Sale season of the year. From mid October to December 22, more Sample Sales and Warehouse Sale occur than at any other time of the year. We started getting besieged with information last week.

Life Lessons in Shopping

Sometimes I wonder, as a parent if any of my shopping expertise is wearing off on my kid.  I stopped buying her clothes about 2 years ago since everything I bought her, she didn’t like or wear. She shops the mall and occasionally the LF outlets.

Having it All for Less

Many Southern Californian’s are associated in some way with the entertainment industry. Actors, Crew & Craft Services, Writers, Directors, Production Assistants and more live on just about every street. Most hustle for every gig and need to look great, and keep up appearances even when they’re in between jobs.  Stretching your dollar is paramount to stay ahead of the game.

Where Does It All Go?

There is always a vast amount of overproduction in the rag trade. Manufacturers make more than they can sell for a variety of practical, economic and marketing reasons.  Why does this happen and where does it all go?

The Sanctuary Warehouse Sale

Lately I have been dragging hubby with me to check out new outlets and sales. Not just because I enjoy his company, but because he often has insight into businesses and pricing that I don’t.
His coming along with me also helps stop me from buying.

But this sale I had to shop!

Making Old New Again

When I was a kid, Spring was my mom’s favorite time of year. Beyond the beauty of nature and the good weather, she loved to come up with new ways to save.  There were always lots of good sales at the big department stores as well as some great warehouse and sample sales. But as a single, working mom, she had to be inventive, recycling some of our winter clothes to get us through the upcoming Summer months.

The Truth About Sample Sales

Sample Sales have changed dramatically over the last 20 years. What used to be a term for a designer showroom sale of samples from the previous season, has turned into a term to describe everything from an overproduction sale to a used closing sale….And everything in between.
