Renting Vs Buying a Special Occasion Dress

Renting is vastly cheaper than buying …. Often 90% less that buying. A savvy way to save some dough, especially if you never plan to use the item again. I have rented nicer cars for events,  camping and hiking gear, large tools, cleaning and home repair items. But you have to consider how much or long you’ll be using a product to decide if buying or renting is better.

Summer Camps

As a parent, this time of year is filled with checking out summer camps and programs to try to get a grip on the costs of my daughters summer experience.

When looking at camps, we consider her interests, our finances and how she did in school during the last year. We also try to limit her camps expenses to around $1500 and include some kind of Summer getaway vacation as well. Not always easily achievable.

Halloween Savings

I don’t really do Halloween. Never have. But as a parent I would have buy the necessary yearly costume.

However, Halloween is fun to do, and there are lots of ways to save on Halloween expenses.

The Big Bash!

Sometimes I go for the easy fix & a bargain price at the same time. This weekend was one of those occasions.

We gave “the kid” a big birthday bash at the house, inviting a mix of 25, 12-14 year old boys and girls. Yikes -these are middle schoolers. We offered no big plans for amusement or games, just music and access to our new Beatles Rock Band… OY! Here’s where we spent our money.

Bargain Theater for Theatrical Snobs

If you’re a theatrical snob or if you haven’t seen any really good theater lately, you’ve got to see Nevermore. This last weekend hubby and I went to the one-man performance of Nevermore with Jeffrey Combs at the Steve Allen Theater. What a fabulous surprise! All I can say is….
