Valentines Hopes

Valentines Day expectations are usually over done.

In my twenties, I expected a lot from boyfriends. They had to secure dinner reservations, flowers and an expensive gift… all to validate our relationship.

During those years though, I found the thoughtful gifts to be the most romantic and memorable.

I’m Headed to the Mall

It may sound odd, even out of step with who I am and what we do here at BargainsLA
But I’m headed to the Mall. The retail mall… not an Outlet Mall.

I’m actually excited about it.

Friends Who Pay Full Retail

I am often perplexed by people who ONLY pay retail, ONLY buy at Boutiques and Department Stores.

Believe it or not, I have had several friends who only pay retail. They live in the best neighborhoods and eat at the trendiest restaurants. These guys only buy brand new, latest and trendiest at top dollar.

Fourth Fun for Less

Our Fourth of July Holiday Week always includes Mom in Law’s birthday.  Since she comes in from out of town, every year we try to make it special without breaking the bank. This year with the extreme heat, it got a little harder. Outdoor activities were off the plate. But we were able to slay a great Birthday Week for her as well as keeping her out of the extreme heat.

A New Grill

Back in 2008, I uncovered a liquidator who had a ton of Australian made patio furniture, BBQ s and complete outdoor islands at 40-80% off original retail. The pricing was unbelievable. We walked away with a Signature S3000E Beef Eater (4 burner) grill. The MSRP was $1899. Here it was only $397. Already assembled we threw in the back of the SUV and gleefully headed home.

For 10 years Hubby grilled every weekend, even during the winter.

It’s the Little Expenses

Years ago, after hubby & I went through financial counseling, we learned that it is the little expenses that will destroy your finances. That morning coffee at Starbucks, those lunches out with the girls, buying bottled water, gym memberships, dinners out, movie night out etc. All those unnecessary expenditures that we love to make and should rethink.

A Vintage Kind of Mind

I have always shopped vintage stores. Whether they’re clothing boutiques, used furniture or appliance stores or collectibles and doo dads emporiums. For me, it’s about affordability as well as quality and design. But I got to admit, it’s more fun to shop vintage than regular stores. Always a lot of, “look a that” or “do you remember these?”

Los Angeles Flower Markets

Flowers are a big deal and a big expense on Valentines Day. So why pay top dollar when you can go shop the Los Angeles Flower district and save 20%-50%?

The Flower District of Downtown Los Angeles is a 6 block floral marketplace, located within the LA Fashion District. Bordered between 9th St & 7th and Maple & San Pedro streets.

Discount Movie Theaters in Los Angeles

I grew up in a home that never missed the Oscars…. Even if we hadn’t seen all the nominated films.  We love going to the movies. Of course, we passed our love of film on to our kid, who is now a bonafide movie buff!

But seeing a movie now at a theater, is an expensive experience.
