Cutting the Cable Line Part One
They are known as “cord cutters”, people who have opted to sever their cable connection.
Some “cut the cord” because they do not like the monopoly of the cable companies. Some do it because they do not like the programming content and for some it’s just too expensive. 500 channels may seem a deal but what if you only watch 8…hmm.
We fall into all three of the above.
Cutting Cable
So, we did it.
We told our cable TV provider Charter Cable to “take a hike’ and cut cable. No longer are we paying for channels we don’t watch or “surprise porn” on HBO or Max. No more paying for Spanish, Korean, Armenian, Japanese shows we don’t watch. We’re done with it.
Irritations
Hmmm, I was under the weather this last weekend, so a few things aggravated me more than usual….
-Amazon Prime no longer gives free shipping if your order is under $25…. Really?
-Gasoline is going up to the point that it’s more than just irritating..
-The LA Times is now $1.65 to pick up during the week at the news stand. More money for less information…. Really?!
But what really got my goat….
Staying Safe
I love my little neighborhood. But, lately my neighborhood has had a slew of daytime robberies. We have a neighborhood watch, a good responsive police department and an active neighborhood homeowners association.
So what do you do?
Last Minute Shopping Ideas
Attention last minute shoppers…. If you haven’t gotten your shopping finished, you will want to hit some of our bargain sources that carry more than a few items to save you time as well as money. Here’s a few spots where you can get it all done …fast!
Print Cartridge Refills at Costco
Print cartridges are notoriously overpriced. You get printers for under a hundred bucks because the manufacturers know that they will make their real money with the cartridge. How much ink is in a 40 dollar cartridge… a tablespoon? Ink costs are crazy. 8000 bucks a gallon crazy! Need to find a way to save some moolah on cartridges..
The Good Cable Guys
I met some really great cable guys today.
For several weeks there has been some kind of cable/ internet problem in our neighborhood. It didn’t seem to affect us. But because we are home working a lot, these cable guys would come by and test the lines on the power pole at our place… once at 4am in the morning!
A Bargain Shopping Truth
Not to put a damper on your Holiday bargain shopping…..
But sometimes you’re not going to save 50% or even 30%!
What?
Yeah it’s true… but the small discount you get may be the deepest discount possible. Welcome to unilateral pricing policies and retail market manipulations.
Barcode Scanner Apps for Your Cell
Barcode scanner apps are cell phone applications that will scan a barcode from your cell and then pull up relevant info such as pricing and store location.
You can see pricing variations and use that knowledge to determine if you are getting a “bargain”.
Incredible Deals on Adobe Software
OK… we’ve been here for awhile and have used Adobe products since our inception. Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Flash, to name a few. But as of last week we were still on Photoshop 7 and Dreamweaver MX. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it…unless of course you get a killer deal on an upgrade.
Enter necessity. Our daughter has shown some computer chops and we decided if she was going to learn Photoshop, it had to be the latest version, CS5.
