Valentines Hopes

Valentines Day expectations are usually over done.

In my twenties, I expected a lot from boyfriends. They had to secure dinner reservations, flowers and an expensive gift… all to validate our relationship.

During those years though, I found the thoughtful gifts to be the most romantic and memorable.

Friends Who Pay Full Retail

I am often perplexed by people who ONLY pay retail, ONLY buy at Boutiques and Department Stores.

Believe it or not, I have had several friends who only pay retail. They live in the best neighborhoods and eat at the trendiest restaurants. These guys only buy brand new, latest and trendiest at top dollar.

Prepping for Thanksgiving

This year we may have a crowd of peeps at our Thanksgiving table. The last 8 years we’ve only had 6-8 people over. This year we are already upwards of 12 and some peeps have kids. I don’t have enough of anything! Not enough plates, flatware, serve ware, linens or chairs. We may rent plates & serve ware if the crowd is large.

Fourth Fun for Less

Our Fourth of July Holiday Week always includes Mom in Law’s birthday.  Since she comes in from out of town, every year we try to make it special without breaking the bank. This year with the extreme heat, it got a little harder. Outdoor activities were off the plate. But we were able to slay a great Birthday Week for her as well as keeping her out of the extreme heat.

A New Grill

Back in 2008, I uncovered a liquidator who had a ton of Australian made patio furniture, BBQ s and complete outdoor islands at 40-80% off original retail. The pricing was unbelievable. We walked away with a Signature S3000E Beef Eater (4 burner) grill. The MSRP was $1899. Here it was only $397. Already assembled we threw in the back of the SUV and gleefully headed home.

For 10 years Hubby grilled every weekend, even during the winter.

A Needed Break

Everyone needs a break. We really needed one, more than usual and so we took a few days last week, drove up and hit the hiking trails in Yosemite.

Having been to Yosemite well over a dozen times, we thought we’d seen everything. But this year, because of the massive snowfall this last Winter, there were more waterfalls than I had ever seen. We didn’t know half their names and I stopped counting at 22.

Black Friday Humbug

Filed Under: Zannee's Tips, Dining, OM Gosh!

Ok… OK! Enough of Black Friday already!

No, I do not hit the malls or retail stores on Black Friday. I like to spend my Holiday weekend with family. It’s a rare rest period during an extremely hectic season for us.
However…

Shopping in Downtown LA

My girl friend, Kim asked me to take her shopping in Downtown LA.  Since she loves Splendid and Ella Moss and had missed their Warehouse Sale,  I took her to the Ella Moss Splendid Outlet.

Our Tight Budget Summer

This Summer we have some expected …and unexpected household maintenance and repair expenses. In order to afford these repairs without using credit or digging into savings, we have implemented some cost savings measures into every aspect of our lives.
