Back to School Prep

Getting the kids heads focused on going back to school is always a challenge.

During the Summer, all of us would avoid talking about going back to school and would instead concentrate on Summer fun, the last lazy days of Summer with family Beach trips and BBQ’s.

Secretly, I was quietly on top of it by Mid July.

Heck of a Deal

We needed a floor lamp for our living room. We actually have needed one for 7 years. But I’m picky. I wanted a wrought iron, Spanish styled floor lamp to go with our 1927 Mediterranean home.  I have found a few over the years but they were too ornate and I didn’t want to pay what they were asking.

While I was cruising the EBTH.com, I found one that looked perfect.

1980’s Technology Throwback

When I was little, my mom had an expensive heating pad that was in a word… AWESOME! She used it daily. It was worn, stained and faded, but keep working great. After she passed, I kept it and used it till last summer when it’s early 1980’s technology finally broke down. It lasted over 30 years. Seriously!

Wasteful Purchases

Too much of our lives are full of wasteful, disposable items that end up in landfills. We buy these items usually because they are financially cheaper than their counterparts. But the price we pay is bigger than we know

The Thrifty Opportunist

Any good bargain shopper will pop into Thrift stores, Yard & Estate Sales and Flea Markets and the occasional dumpster dive. Not because “used” is always a bargain, it isn’t. But because sometimes you’ll find opportunistic steals.

Some of my best deals ever came from Thrifts.

Surviving the Holiday Season Part 1

During the Holiday season it’ easy to get stressed out with guest preparations, home prep, cooking and holiday shopping.

Like all of you, I get stressed out trying to balance it all. It is my busiest time of year. The most important aspect of lessening stress is staying organized and getting started early. Waiting till the last minute always ends up costing more.

Blinded by the Deal

It’s so easy to find such a great deal that you jump on it without question.  I call it being “Deal Blind”.  Deals like a $400 designer coat for $10. Or a new, perfect dining table for $50 instead of $500.

The most important thing to do when you find an outstanding bargain of epic proportions is to breathe…. Stop and breathe and think.

Life Lessons in Shopping

Sometimes I wonder, as a parent if any of my shopping expertise is wearing off on my kid.  I stopped buying her clothes about 2 years ago since everything I bought her, she didn’t like or wear. She shops the mall and occasionally the LF outlets.

The Sanctuary Warehouse Sale

Lately I have been dragging hubby with me to check out new outlets and sales. Not just because I enjoy his company, but because he often has insight into businesses and pricing that I don’t.
His coming along with me also helps stop me from buying.

But this sale I had to shop!

Surprising Deals

Yee Gads!  Our 8-year-old counter top microwave bit the dust. So spoiled is my family, that we had to immediately go find another one.  We really only use it for reheating. But that convenience is too important.

I was not going to be rushed into this purchase. I had to find one at a good price.
