Bargain Buys
Cruising Commerce
Web Dude and I were cruising around Commerce Thursday, checking in on some outlets we love and visiting new ones. Saw a couple of places I wanted to research in depth and another couple of places that were just so so.
We did however pop into long time BargainsLA fave California Closeouts.
After Christmas Shopping
The day after Christmas is usually the biggest shopping day of the year. That yearning to spend gift cards and bag a bargain persists in most of us. But the streets around the malls are still a traffic nightmare and the parking lots are filled with ill-mannered parking imbeciles. I try to avoid shopping the day after Christmas, but not this year.
A Tale of Two Pies
This year we didn’t want the chaos of baking pies while cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Plus we wanted to support a friend who opened up a new Bakery in Sunland (The Back Door Bakery).
Hubby ordered a pecan pie from them at $20 for us to pick up Thursday morning.
Of course, I didn’t want to spend $20 on another pie, so I walk into my local Marie Calenders and ordered one Apple pie.
Rewards for Hard Work
Our daughter had had a really stressful, exhausting week with her High School Choir rehearsals & performances along with a slew of other responsibilities. With her full workload she still managed to get A’s in all her classes. It was time to give her a reward for all her hard work. So last Friday I took her out of school, letting her sleep in late and then took her shopping.
A Frugal Mind Set
The kid is back at school so days of sleeping in to 8am are over. Our 20 year old alarm clock is going off now at 6:45.
The good news is our daughter didn’t need much in terms of back to school supplies and is content to wait till the LF Warehouse Sale to get clothes.
We approached this whole back to school thing this year with frugality. I honestly was fed up with re-buying school supplies, shoes and clothes every year
Summer Get Away
This Summer has been busier than usual and between parenting and running BargainsLA, the stress level has been above the norm. Our quick trip to the San Diego Zoo this last weekend was suppose to help us “getaway from it all” for some stress relief and family time for the day. It proved to be both good and bad.
Surprise Bargains
Bargains can be found anywhere, even when you aren’t looking. This is both good and bad. Good if you can afford to snap up a deal at almost anytime and bad if you can’t. When you can’t pounce on everything, ya gotta be selective!
The Thrill of the Hunt
In Los Angeles we rush around a lot. Busy lives, hectic schedules make it hard to shop just for fun. This last weekend we all slowed down a bit and from what I’m hearing everyone enjoyed the laid back pace.
Shopping should be fun and hopefully not rushed.
Refurbished Patio Set
Now that beautiful warm weather is here and will be around for awhile, I am spending a lot more time in my garden. Using my laptop while sitting at my refurbished Brown & Jordon 1971 outdoor set, I answer emails, write and research in the mornings outside amongst the roses. In the evenings we have dinner or visit with friends at the same 40 year old set.
NBC 4 Fathers Day Bargains
Dad deserves the best…. for less.
This is where I got the goodies I showed on NBC 4 Sunday 6/19.
Have fun!
