A Home Depot Problem

Lately my hubby seems to be regularly running up to Home Depot to get hardware, parts, and home improvement items. Especially since we’ve been finishing up our bathroom project. He has bought all sorts of little things we didn’t need or use and had to return them.

Heck of a Deal

We needed a floor lamp for our living room. We actually have needed one for 7 years. But I’m picky. I wanted a wrought iron, Spanish styled floor lamp to go with our 1927 Mediterranean home.  I have found a few over the years but they were too ornate and I didn’t want to pay what they were asking.

While I was cruising the EBTH.com, I found one that looked perfect.

Always tell ‘em BargainsLA sent ya!

You can’t assume anything when you’re bargain shopping. If a product is discounted, there is a reason. I want to find out why.

When I research, I ask direct questions. How did the product get here? What year is it from? Who liquidated it? How can they sell it so cheaply?

Tossing vs. Hoarding

When I was a little girl, I remember my grandmother saving everything. Having lived through the great depression, she valued thriftiness and resourcefulness.

I, on the other hand have a penchant for tossing everything.  If it isn’t being used, get rid of it.

Do it Yourself

I don’t consider myself “cheap”, but I do have a good sense of what I can and cannot do to save myself money.

Sometimes I learn how to do things because of financial constraints. But then hire professional anyways because I/ we are afraid of our inability.

A Vintage Kind of Mind

I have always shopped vintage stores. Whether they’re clothing boutiques, used furniture or appliance stores or collectibles and doo dads emporiums. For me, it’s about affordability as well as quality and design. But I got to admit, it’s more fun to shop vintage than regular stores. Always a lot of, “look a that” or “do you remember these?”

Scams, Lies and Dirty Tricks

Researching discounters has its ups and downs. This last week though I had more than the usual frustrations with so called “discount” retailers.

One store had huge banner ads on the outside of their building claiming 50% off retail on Closeout Furniture. Further investigation proved that it was a scam.

The Gift of Time

Filed Under: Zannee's Tips, Local fun

As a Mom of a now technically adult child, my needs as a Mom have changed.

For Mothers Day, please don’t buy me a “Best Mom” tee shirt or mug. Really. I’d only wear it around the house and the mug would gather dust.  I love chocolates, fragrance, flowers as well as a great meal, but those things are not at the top of my list

1980’s Technology Throwback

When I was little, my mom had an expensive heating pad that was in a word… AWESOME! She used it daily. It was worn, stained and faded, but keep working great. After she passed, I kept it and used it till last summer when it’s early 1980’s technology finally broke down. It lasted over 30 years. Seriously!

Wasteful Purchases

Too much of our lives are full of wasteful, disposable items that end up in landfills. We buy these items usually because they are financially cheaper than their counterparts. But the price we pay is bigger than we know
