The New Urban Flea Market

I have always loved Flea Markets. When I was touring the country back in the 1980’s, I would always seek out a Flea Market for unique local bargains. At that time, Flea Markets were mostly composed of old or used clothing, treasures and trinkets at stupidly low prices. Dickering was expected, dealers were characters and cash was king.

But, things have changed….

Opportunistic Freebies

I’ve been known on occasion to trash pick… dumpster dive and otherwise peruse for free used items.

In the last 5 years, we have found a Kohler Memoirs Porcelain sink, wrought iron patio furniture, a faux white wicker garden chair, high quality gift wrap paper & ribbon, a wicker chest of drawers, glass table tops and some 1920’s glass door knobs.

Sticker Shock

Part of my job is being familiar with the product that is out in the market place. I periodically wonder through higher end boutiques, appliance, home improvement, department and fine home furnishings stores, chatting it up with the sales help. Learning what I can.

Until this last weekend, I thought I had seen some of the most expensive contemporary furniture around.
