Halloween Woes

My daughter gets to wear her Halloween Costume to school on Friday. Call me silly but I don’t want my 13-year-old daughter to look like skankie trollop for Halloween. So I okayed it when she wanted to get a Little Miss Muffett Costume from Costume.com.

The costume shows up and the skirt is so short my daughter can’t even wear it to school without being sent home for breaking dress codes. Funny how it didn’t look that short in the picture.

Time is short and to find another costume would be difficult. So I head up to Jo Ann’s Fabrics, buy 4 yards of  4” lace trim to add on to the dress. Lace trim is expensive and it added an additional $20 to the cost of the $38 costume. I would have bought the cheaper poly blend but it was so see thru I couldn’t.

I hate sewing! Really. Deeply hate it. I only have a machine so I can hem pants. But after pinning and sewing,  two hours later we have a workable dress. But my daughter has been warned. No more catalogue costumes ever. From now on if I have to sew, it will be home made one or one from the Goodwill for $5. Lesson learned.

Akthough I understand the frustration with the cost and labor — the lace trim really set it off - it’s adorable.
