Zannee’s Adventure at the Sassoon Academy Part 1
Call me crazy… but occasionally I like to take a risk.
I was asked by “Your LA TV” on NBC to come up with a “Beauty for Less” segment. We decided to concentrate on hair services and product, so I called the Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica. Here you can get salon services that would run $80-$150 for $17-$25
I thought the segment would be much more fun if I went through the process of getting my hair colored and cut at the Sassoon Academy. Ya know… get that total Sassoon look. That would also give a start to finish example of how it all works when you go to the Academy instead of the salon.
On the first day I dragged my family with me as I went in for a consultation and color.
After the consultation, the color instructor, Lucas and a student first washed my hair with a special rinse (Malibu 2000) that would take any excess mineral deposits out of my hair.
They first applied the highlights and 30 minutes later the full color, all while the instructor watched over and directed the process carefully.

Foils in the hairs with near purple looking dye, has got to be one of the scariest alien looks around. My daughter got a huge laugh out of it, teasing me and cracking jokes.
”Look, mom’s wired!”… “This is my alien mom”… ha ha ha.

Here’s when the sharp staff talked my daughter into getting a Malibu treatment … to get the chlorine green out of her hair. This kept her occupied and out of my hair for awhile. After a rinse, and a blow dry, me darling daughter’s dull ashen blond hair was a beautiful bright blond once again. She was elated.

The Sassoon Academy is first a teaching academy, so the process here takes longer… the consultation, color mixing & prep, application, technique, timing… everything is double checked by the instructor. If you’re tight on time this may not work for you.

But because of the strong oversight, no miss haps will happen. But they also don’t let you try to do dumb stuff like going from natural black hair to a platinum blond either. Their philosophy is “to work with hair in its natural state, to treat hair as organic material, to shape and balance hair to reflect the individual and reveal their beauty”. If you’re willing to get some input and are not stuck on only one color or style you should come out with something flattering and fashionable.
I was thrilled with the color results. Hubby wanted something more daring, more extreme, but I was thrilled. The result was dramatic and flattering.

I’ve heard about the academy. Thanks for the insight. I wonder if they work on ethnic hair types?

Can’t imagine why a world class hair academy wouldn’t. I would call ahead, describe your hair and see what they say.
