Sometime spring cleaning leads to more than just cleaning. This last weekend I did the good daughter thing and went over to moms place to do some spring cleaning for her. Though she has a cleaning lady every couple week, a deep cleaning was in order. Since my labor is cheaper than hiring a cleaning team to do it, I set out with my favorite cleaning /polishing stuff and went to work.

I used Howard’s “Restore- A Finish” to liven up here antique dining room table, sideboard and secretary. I swept the ceilings leaving dust trails to find a new home. I cleaned her chandelier. I went to Big Lots and got plastic containers for storage after I cleaned out her closets. I washed windows and curtains, I scrubbed her kitchen floor with Spic n’ Span to get ride of the built up wax and I took bags of stuff to the Goodwill. In short I work my *^%^%$ off and ruined my nails.

At the end, the place looked the same. All that work and there wasn’t really a noticeable difference! What she really needed is more like a spring redo, some paint and a couple pieces of new furniture to liven up the look.

A weekend cleaning project had turned into a re-decorating project. I should have hired a cleaning team and left it at that. Now I am looking for home décor items and furniture for her, carrying color swatches and hiring painters. Oh, spring cleaning my small abode will now have to wait till May. I guess we’ll call that Summer cleaning.
