Bargain Finds

Mary & Rafa’s Discount Outlet

By Suzanne O'Connor

As liquidation stores go, Mary’s and Rafa’s Discount Outlet is a classic off price liquidator. Here they liquidate department store overstock, customer returns, excess product and freight damaged items selling them to the public at 35%-80% savings.

But you have to be willing to hunt. This no frills shopping hub has some sales help but you are mostly on your own. If you are willing to “dig” for your deals and bargains, you will find them here and save 30%-80% on clothing, house wares, electronics, some furniture & appliances and sundries.

Some items are damaged here, but some are mint… hence the hunt. But when you score, you score big time.

The day I was in all clothing was $10. Coats and jackets were $20-$25 as were shoes at $20-$25. Though most items are one of a kind, there were some really good women’s shoes labels here: Steve Madden, Timberland, Nine, West, Aerosoles. Ralph Lauren, Enzo Angiolini, Stuart Weitzmann, Dansko, Simple and Diesel… all at $20-$25.  These had original retail values from $80-$200.

The women’s clothing had a wide array of labels. American Rag Cie, Roxy Style & Co., Calvin Klein, Hurley, Tahari, Pepe, Kensie, Free People, Jones New York, Rachel Roy, Alfani, DKNY and others, Guys and a decent selection of tops, jackets, shoes and pants by Ralph Lauren Aqua, Ecko, O’Neill, Hugo Boss, Donald Pliner, and more…. again all at $10-$25.

They also have corner with brand name kid clothing at the same rock bottom pricing. Labels like XOXO, Baby Headquarters, Roxy, Apple Bottom, O’Neill, Arizona Jeans and they even had a nice suede coat by Rothschild for $25 instead of $85. Sweet!

I went through the racks of food products sundries, shampoos, lotion, baby food, vitamins and there were some good buys at 30%-40% off.  But I wouldn’t make this a shopping destination for those items. Like all true liquidation companies it can be hit or miss.

I am cautious about buying appliances anywhere but they had some really nice buys here. A large Whirlpool Built on Microwave was $400 instead of $600. A Wolfgang Puck electric griddle was $35 instead of $75.  A LG Washer and dryer set was $800.  A Kitchen Aid side by side stainless refrigerator was $1500 instead of $2300. But some pieces didn’t have visible pricing.

There were some outstanding buys in house wares including a Cuisinart 12 cup Coffee maker at $50 instead of $75 and a Rowenta commercial garment steamer was $70 instead of $140.

The deals here are serious. This is true liquidation outlet shopping, for the hardy bargain hunter who can spot quality and is willing to hunt.
