Foam Mart

Upholstery
Burbank

By Suzanne O'Connor

An old time favorite for upholstery stuffing, crafts and construction projects is Foam Mart in Burbank. Around since 1963, daughter Andrea has taken over this family run business and is making this place a one stop destination for extremely hard to find products in a large selection of foams as well as fabrics, feather inserts to latex mattresses, insulation, craft and memory foam.

Pricing runs the gamut from straight retail to 60% off with most items at retail if you’re buying in small quantities The reason to shop here is they carry hard to find, unique items and no minimums. If you need cushions re-stuffed, re-upholstered, fixed or don’t know what you need this is a great place to start. The sale staff is nice, knowledgeable and the turn around is fast.

Here, if you’re buying any kind of foam there is no minimum order…. But, you’d get a better price if you buy in volume. The more you buy, the more you save.  If you buy a “pallet” of product it’s less than “wholesale”. Large quantities will give you the “trade only” prices and then there is retail prices for small projects.

They carry the highest quality upholstery foam, not cheap stuff that won’t last a few years. Foam is graded in a HR rating of 18-35. They carry HR25 or better. Most sofas and upholstered goods on the market today are lower in quality with a lower rating.

One of the best buys include Blown Fiber cushions or pillows. At $2.25 an inch you save about 30% on the same sized cushion instead of buying foam core with a poly wrap for your cushions. The texture, feel and quality are also higher than poly wrap foam cushion.

They have 100%  Memory Foam mattresses. These top mattresses can be bought in twin thru Queen and come in 6”-9” thickness. They can custom make them to make it deeper if you need them to fit your deep pocket sheets. A 6” Memory Foam mattress was $375 in a twin. A 9” Memory Foam mattress was $795 in a queen….Retail in price.
Hard to find, 100% latex Queen mattresses were $1195. Not really a bargain, but they last forever.

Some of the best buys were in the fabrics. Some nice canvas fabric came in a multitude of colors and weights (10oz -24 oz) at $13-$18 instead of $18-$25. A fun selection of faux fur fabrics was $25 a yard instead of $33. Some stunning tapestries were $7.99 instead of $28 a yard.  A white on white brocade was $10 a yard. Sunbrella fabrics were here at $9.95 a yard instead of $18.95 a yard.

That hard to find foam here whether its for insulation, craft, upholstery, sound proofing, etc and there are some good buys to go along with it. Sweet.
