Designer Fashion Exchange
Sometimes I am sooo unfamiliar with a business operation or product, that I really don’t know what I am walking in to. So I was delightfully surprised when I walked into Designer Fashion Exchange and found it to be a superior outlet for women’s better apparel at 50%-95% below original retail. Located in an industrial area of Gardena, this is a real factory outlet handling the remaining product (overruns and samples) from the Nygard distribution warehouse behind it.
Nygard makes many different women’s apparel labels that are featured in better department stores up in Canada and stores like Dillard’s here in California. Our closest Dillard is in Palmdale, which is why I was sooo unfamiliar with the product line. Mostly for women over 40, it’s a classic, quality, stylish line where even I found things I wanted to buy. The line is not for your trendy “twenty something” exposing skin, but more for professional woman. They have a good selection of new first quality clothing here that would fit a petite woman (4p) and items that those of us well up into the plus sizes.
The prices here are stunners … OY! The center rows have the best deals with items from seasons past. They have items marked so low that they beat Goodwill pricing. I’ll start with the black merino wool crew neck sweater from the Peter Nygard knitwear fall line. I picked it up for only $7. The original retail tag said $138. What a steal. A Summer blouse that originally retailed at $32 was only $4. A metallic knit turtleneck tank was $3 instead of $38. A very Pucci –esque printed silk blouse retailed at $98. At the outlet it’s $24-$36. A Long A line skirt from the fall collection was $10 instead of $110. Some neat linen trousers were originally $168 but here at only $10! There were lots of cheap pricing …Silk tank $5, white cotton blouse, $3, skinny tank $5, Silk gold jacket $15… and so on.
For those into the classic Draper and Damon’s look, you find better selection and pricing here. From the classic elastic waist trousers at $3-$10 to Cashmere blend sweaters at $7 instead of $48.
If you want more style, they have that too. The side rooms have more current merchandise in their plus size line and regular lines. Some leather jackets in a good selection of pastel colors were $149….50% off of the original retail of $298. Rabbit fur caplets were $61 instead of $128. A poet blouse was $34 instead f $68. A ¾ coat (Very Trina Turk) was $84 instead of $168 A silk bohemian blouse that originally went for $158 was $79 and a matching broomstick skirt was $4 instead of $88.
You find lots of classic ensembles and stylish sets here from office wear to evening wear at the same serious savings. Items move real fast here and it was remarkably busy for an out of the way store in the middle of the week. This is a must stop for professional women of all sizes. Bring your mom, you aunt and neighbor. This is a terrific haunt for serious deals. Tell ‘em BargainsLA.com sent ya!
