Trying to spruce up your house with new furniture? There are liquidations sales galore and bargains to be had around every corner. But if you have champagne taste on a beer budget, there are bargain to be found in some unusual places. Furniture consignment shops can yield unusual furnishings, higher end designer and artwork pieces at surprising prices.
A visit to an established Westlake Village consignment shop, Consignment Warehouse had me spying some very upscale designer goods at savings of 35%-65%. The pieces here were new, near new, used but in mint condition with some antiques pieces and some obviously used furnishings thrown in. Not everything here is a great deal. Everything is fairly priced, but a sharp eye and open mind is needed to find the best deals.
Good buys included a full sized kids bed with a bookshelf headboard at $399. An antique, mint condition 1930’s Berkley and Gay dresser and mirror set at $795. A New higher end tawny colored sofa was $1317. Retail would be up at around $2100. A black contemporary console sofa table was just $99. A statement making, black, hand-painted antique dinning set with 6 chairs and 3 leaves was a steal at $795. Matching China cabinet was also $795. Both showed some wear.
A gorgeous, glass coffee table was $199. Retail would have been up near $750. Some stunning gold and cream Bergere upholstered side chairs were $695 each. Retail would have been upwards of $1200 each. A tan & black chenille sofa with a bit of wear was $695 and a large inlaid antique clothing armoire was a great buy at $889.
If you have great furniture you need to sell, the consignment split is 50/50 here. Good for selling and good bargains for buying. Works for me.
