A Star Furniture

Affording really good or even best quality furniture, even at a bargain price isn’t always achievable. Some of us may be single, in our first apartments, raising a family or in another situation that prohibits buying the high quality furniture.

There is a place for low to mid level quality furniture and one of the places to get a good deal on that level of quality is A Star Furniture in Glendale. The savings here runs 30%-50% on mid quality home furnishings.

In the mix at A Star Furniture is some low end, but there is enough of the better, mid level furniture to make this place a gem of a find for bargain hunters. A smaller operation with just 2 locations, they keep the pricing down by lowering their mark up margins on brand name furniture by Ashley, Coaster, EJ Lauren and Jonathan Lewis. Their profit margin is in the volume of product they sell.

The showroom is a warehouse setting. There isn’t any furniture groupings or settings. You can buy off the floor or custom order here choosing from dozens of different fabrics. All of the upholstered product is made locally or in the USA.

Some of the better buys included a Jonathan Lewis sofa chaise semi sectional with 7 pillows. Soft down like cushions covered in a micro fiber fabric, this was one comfortable sofa. Priced at $1299, the retail would run $1700-$1900.  An EJ Lauren sofa in a cream micro fiber had piping detail in a modern sofa.  This very Pottery Barn –esque styled sofa runs $899. Retail would be more around $1300-$1600. An Ashley 8’ faux leather sofa is just $525. Retail is $699.  A Large Ashley sectional is $899. Retail is usually around $1100-$1200. There were some bonded leather sofas and sectionals here. Bonded leather looks great, but isn’t real leather and doesn’t hold up well, especially if the cushions are soft.

Some of the hard case goods were good buys as well… but not all.  Made in China, I wasn’t thrilled with any of the chest of drawers. But the dining table sets were pretty good deal. A Bistro styled dining table by Coaster, in a dark finish had a lazy Susan in the center and 4 bar chairs for just $499. It should have been priced up at $699. This piece was a laminate veneer over solid wood. A large rectangular dining table with 6 chairs was $679. Retail should have been $980. 

If you’re in the market for furniture that’s low price, I’d give A Star Furniture a visit. You won’t find estate quality furnishings here, but some nice furniture at some really affordable pricing.
